Basket of Jewels

Basket of Jewels was started around an unusual Brazilian agate slice. This beautiful piece is undyed because it has plenty of natural color: blue, white, rust. Also, the seep hole is clearly visible in the slice. Approximate dimensions: 7" L X 6¼" W X 2¾" H.

The basket was carefully shaped into a shallow bowl with a flared rim. The bottom has a single coil step-up platform. Strings of gemstone chip beads, alternating with a single chip, uniformly edge the basket rim: sodalite, turquoise, tiger eye, rose quartz, amethyst, snowflake obsidian, blue goldstone, garnet. The flare was shaped so the strings would hang freely. The stitching is presentable on both sides -- necessary when shaping a bowl. Stitched with natural sinew, with a bit of blue trim for contrast.

Pattern available.
