Iris Box

Dimensions: 9.5" X 7.75" X 3" deep. I call this item "Iris Box"--the thing inside the diamond is supposed to be an iris.

I'm thrilled with this basket. It has a platform bottom and lots of detailed stitching. The bottom was started with a figure-eight; there is no insert. It's made entirely of southern longleaf pine needles and raffia; the teneriffe on top is supported internally with wire and worked with raffia. Have added cords for hinges, fastener, handle; leather and semi precious stones.

I don't recommend this, but I made the teneriffe before the basket (it was an experiment). That works fine for circular baskets, but not ovals. I had to work the basket very carefully in order to get it to fit the lid--should be the other way around. The lid does fit fine, though.

A special thanks is in order to Kaye Burlason who taught me how to do the fish net filler stitch on the teneriffe top. You should see her work!!!!
